Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 hangs at boot flashing SAMSUNG logo

Samsung says I need to reset the device. I the last photo of my father before he passed away on the tablet.
I can not get Kies to connect to it. I have attempted to restart it and to remove the SD card which changed nothing.
I can't get past the flashing SAMSUNG logo.
