How do I turn off the notification sound on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

I have the galaxy tab beside my bed at night but the notification sound is waking me up when an email goes to my Gmail. I usually check my Gmail on my computer, but I like to have it available on my tablet as well.
I'd like to be able to keep the Tab synced to my Gmail but I just don't need the notifications

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the Gmail app or the stock Email app? Open whichever one you use, tap Menu>Settings, and look for the notification options. Turn notifications off. If you're using the stock Email app, you have to select the Gmail account first, then look for the notification options.

Samsung S7

Hi, I have just brought the latest Samsung S7 and I can't turn off the sound for new emails. I read a previous post that was the same but the instructions to remedy didn't fit . Can you please advise if there is another way.
