I just bought a new Galaxy Tab A, SM-T280. I'm currently running 5.1.1. It's WiFi only.

This is my first tablet with android. I was wondering if I'm able to upgrade the OS to 6 and beyond. When I went to "software update," it said everything was up to date.

I just want to see if it's capable of running marshmellow or any of the other OS's past Lollipop.

Thanks for the help!

FWIW, Samsung added manuals for Marshmallow to the support site for this device (I have one also). So maybe they are going to push an update at some point...

Good to know! That is for the exact same model number, right? It's probably hard for SamMobile to stay current on every Samsung device out there.

Excuse me if this is a dumb question but how does Samsung push the updates on wifi only products? I would imagine a non-cellular connected tablet would have to download an .apk or something. Maybe my knowledge is out of date but the only time I've seen updates pushed out are by the phone provider or in the case of my nexus 5x I guess Google actually pushes the updates direct. When I had my dell venue dell pushed out the updates. My Tab A is not 3g/LTE (wish it was) so if I register on samsung's site would I get an email or something? I just bought the tablet supposed to be here tomorrow (can't wait) but I believe I saw a spot on samsung's site to register for warranty etc. Anyone know if the Tab A with s-pen is supposed to get nougat at some point?

They are discussing SM-T280 Tab A 7 inches, not the same as your Tab A SM-T350 8 inches.
It's just like to compare orange and apple.
They are different tablets in design and features.
The 280 has FRP ( Factory Reset Protection ) and speaker is on the rear cover.
The 350 doesn't has FRP and speaker is at the bottom of the tablet.

Thought this was the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8 & 9.7) sub forum?

With frp what needs to be done to upgrade to 6.0 or root my devece.i confermed sm.t280 5.01 os
You are still confusing orange and apple. The poster has a SM-T350 which currently has Nougat OS.
The SM-T280 is still in Lollipop 5.1.1, the latest build is QK2.
You cannot upgrade when it doesn't exist.
FRP lock can bypass easily, look youtube for video, but the firmware must be downgraded.
