Galaxy 8.9 and external HD

I'm getting ready to make my purchase - off course it seems so is everyone else and 32GB models are hard to find.

Can any owner answer this question for me.

8.9 specs variously say USB yes or no.
It looks as if the adapter has to be used but the provided one is a male end. I want to use with my Samsung mini 250GB HD so I can read my movie file (lots of MKV) I assume I can get a double female adapter or a USB male to male mini adapter.

The question is will the galaxy /android read the usb connected HD and its mostly MKV file natively or do I need to add an App?

My Tab can play MKV locally, but it varies depending on the frame rate while on the stock ROM. It mght have been something added, i have a LOT of media apps but it can play MKV's.

I don't know about connecting to an external drive.

But with my Tab rooted and over clocked ( using this kernal i could play most of my MKV without a hitch.

Yes the latest Samsung spec says it will play MKV and I don't see why it would not be able to read an external memory stick or HD.

I placed my order so in a weeks time I should know for sure.
