can this 6.0 update be gained manually

I've heard there are people unwilling to wait for the signal to come OTA so they somehow install it manually .
Is it a reasonable alternative ?

It is as long as you do it through the 'official' channels (Kies, Smart Switch, or going to a Best Buy store's Samsung area). If you choose to do it TRULY manually by flashing the ROM yourself, just make sure the ROM you're using is the one designed and intended for your specific model or you might run into issues.
