I thought I would see if anything thought this would make sense. I like the ease of use of Android for Apps and tools, but like the idea of full functionality when needed when portable as well. I'm tired of the Microsoft and Applie world wanting to control everything I see and do and snoop on everything I do with their OS's. Totally lost control of my own devices and have lost my patience.

Nicely powered laptop, some flavor of desktop friendly Linux, that can run an android VM. I realize the startup times and battery life will always be an issue, probably the killer most likely. But still like the idea of having android tools and apps available on a 'desktop' platform as well. I ideally a 2 in 1 tablet designed device.

    Anyone taken this path already?

if you want to run android apps in linux, all you need is an emulator. If you want the look and feel of android, there are linux chrome distros. you can find all you need with a simple search. I cannot recommend any since I do not use them.

There are quite a few distros for an ARM processor - see this page.

As far as a VM that can run Android, have a look at these.
