So the official Pie ROM for the S3 is just too slow. You can barely even browse the web without a third party browser (I anyways use Brave, but some people prefer full stock) because Samsung Internet is a laggy mess now. The system is one moment fast, one moment slow as a freaking SNAIL. Oreo is also a bit slow, especially after the last few so-called "security" updates. Oreo also causes the dreaded cursed system UI crash. I remember when I bought the tablet it was insanely fast, perfectly stable, and very reliable. So I'm planning to flash the oldest firmware available on SamMobile, which is the May 2017 Nougat based ROM the tablet presumably shipped with on release. I hate it when a generally good company like Samsung does planned obsolescence shenanigans. I am NOT going to spend $650 on a new model if I don't have to (I am a college student and cannot afford to decrease my already small net worth). Not counting the garbage updates, the Tab S3 is still an amazing device. Now I did also try Pie based custom ROMS, but on those the GPU causes the SoC to go up to a staggering 100°C during most 3D loads (non gaming stuff though is 1000x faster than on OneUI). I have filed a complaint about the second ROM I tried and if the dev fixes it I may return to that ROM once Nougat is totally obsolete. Samsung is milking their position as the maker of the best tablets and the fact that most users aren't nearly tech savvy enough to use things like Odin to get back the good old software. Meanwhile, my recently acquired $300 brand-new discount Galaxy S8 is on the latest OneUI update and is running smooth as silk. The Tab S3 is only 50% less powerful than the S8, so logically it should still run the official Pie and Oreo updates well? In reality it doesn't.

If my downgrade plan succeedes (which it 100% will), I will put instructions if any of you want.

I REALLY want to downgrade too. I just got Pie last night and it is so slow and laggy. Can you help me achieve this? Thanks!

The OP never did the downgrade - see his other post after he got an updated version of the Pie ROM, said it made the device much better...

Mine was very slow after the update. I then did a hard reset and installed apps from a back up in Samsung backups not Google, TWICE. After the 2nd time, it started running smoothly. It doesn't seem lightning fast (I just bought it from someone after Pie} but it's fast.

I then noticed horrible battery life. I fixed that by disabling a ton of bloatware and default Samsung apps (followed a couple of guides on XDA) with Package Disabler Pro for Samsung. My battery life is better.

Not sure what to compare it to since I just got it, but I love the 9.7 size and light weight!

As I mentioned in another post, I couldn't downgrade below Pie because Samsung has a special lock that prevents you from loading old bootloader and ROMs. I did however find a newer Pie build that works a ton better, but is still not perfect.
