Why won't my Samsung Android (4.2.2 model GT--P5110) power on?

My samsung android 4.2.2 model GT--P5110 won't power on

I had my tablet working last night and plugged it in to recharge. When I checked on how it was going I discovered that it will not power up. Have tried holding the on/off button for 60 seconds...no luck. Have kept it upto date with downloads, run very little on it other than ebooks which are trashed on a regular basis & as of 2 days ago had greater than 50% storage capacity left. Any ideas and if battery maybe the problem, how do you get the back cover of?

Welcome to Android Central! It's always possible the battery died. Had you noticed any battery issues recently? Do you routinely let the battery drain close to zero before charging back up? Frequent deep discharges of the battery can shorten its overall lifespan.
