I find that if I have more than a few to delete at once (and my "honeypot account"* gets a few hundred a day), the best way is with an email program on the computer. (Using an IMAP account - it won't work on a POP3 account, because they keep the emails on each device independently). I can "select all" on the computer, then delete and hundreds of emails disappear at once. A minute or so later, they're gone from the phone too.
(*An account you use to log into some place that requires an email address that you won't be needing because you don't want email from them, and that may sell your address. All I ever do with that account is select all/delete. I don't even look to see what's there.)
