I'm surprised I can't seem to find any app that gives change in vertical feet (useful for various sports, especially skiing). The "Hiking" workout mode tells you these stats at the end of your workout, but you can't display them during the workout.
Is there anything I've missed out there that does it?

Alti-barometer app (by Samsung) should do the trick.

Last time I checked out that app, it simply gave current altitude or current barometer measurement with a graph--it didn't calculate the change in altitude since the start of an event.

There's a setting there I think for auto-update, and I assume you'd have to open it at the beginning of your hike and leave it open.

    No
    That doesn't do it.
