Verizon - Flip 4 works with Cricket with some caveats

So I got Verizon Flip 4 ( for insanely crazy deal from offerup), I put in my Cricket sim card and everything works except few minor things. I cannot check imei by dialing *#06#, gives error "Connection problem or invalid MMI code", visual voice mail doesn't work. From what I remember, Verizon has some deal with Samsung such that all their phones are actually unlocked and gets rebranded based on the sim card you insert, I was successfully able to do this on S10's, however on Flip 4 didn't really rebrand however everything works except few things that I mentioned. Wondering can someone shed some light here? Do I need to flash this with custom software?

keep in mind if your planing on useing this with Cricket and not verizon software updates might not work has well

Aren't ALL devices sold now unlocked!? Didn't the FTC mandate this a few years ago?

That's what I thought. But, Verizon says it keeps phones locked for 60 days to be sure it isn't stolen then automatically unlocks them. I don't work there, so I don't know. That's just what it says on their website (which is terrible, by the way).
