    The message I get is "no gear devices". My s2 is turned on, but it is still not being detected.

    try doing a lite reset to the watch. I've had to do that when switching between my Phones.

    Yes. And I also Uninstalled gear app update on phone. And then reinstalled again. Working much better now.
