I wonder if it's like a phone where you need to unlock it. Are you financing the watch?

That's more the question I think. It's an e-sim, so you can't "change it". I would call t-mobile and see if they can activate the device specific esim, or what they suggest you do if they can't.

The Seminoles is paid for and T-mobile is sending a Sim so they think it can be swapped out. It has a number associated with it. I think I will have to call AT&T and get it unlocked and see if I can port it over.

    Thanks

Whoever you're talking to is clueless. The SIM on the Gear S2 and S3 is embedded in the device. It cannot be removed or replaced. It is activated electronically by the carrier. Theoretically, you should be able to switch carriers, but in actuality, its probably not possible. Your best bet is to take it into a T-Mobile store and ask them to activate it.

Good luck and please report back on your success.

Thank you, that is what I thought. I will need to call T-Mobile to activate the new phones and I will ask then and go to a store if need be.

Here is an update I called AT&T and they told me it was under contract, when I got it I was told that I was getting it free since I bought my wife a new S7. At any rate I paid the $120 and and am still waiting on AT&T's site to show it as paid and unlock it. I can then call T-mobile and port the number. So this should be interesting. Hopefully by tomorrow I can do it.

I called AT&T again and they said the device could not be unlocked. I will sell it since I just got an S3 with T-Mobile.

So long as you don't owe on the watch, you should be able to activate it on any carrier. You shouldn't need to unlock it, because of the e-sim. It would just need to be deactivated from whichever account it was on, and activated on your new carrier.

That is not what AT&T told me. I ended with an S3 Frontier and really like it.

When we switched to TMO a few weeks ago I tried to do this. It requires the new carrier be given the ICCID number which is supposed to be in the About Gear on the watch. It wasn't there so I had to buy a new 3G or 4G watch which I purchased off ebay this morning. Mine was a VZW watch. I even contacted Samsung directly and they told me if it wasn't there it couldn't be ported. Maybe it's just VZW who does this, I dunno.

AT&T uses twenty characters in their ICCID number for the Gear S2. T-Mobile uses nineteen in theirs. Therefore unlocked or not, an AT&T purchased Gear S2 is not cross carrier compatible.

The Verizon version of the watch uses CDMA, the ATT & Tmobile versions are GSM. So the ICCID would be the "sim card" number. CDMA uses a different number, the ESN id.

I have a T-Mobile S3 and moved to Verizon it will not work. I could not move it. You can use it as a Bluetooth device only but not with Cellular.

I am in the same boat.

Another option is using the watch on T-Mobile while keeping the phone on Verizon. Works perfectly fine. There are a few folks here on the forum doing that, especially since the S3. T-Mobile's single line wearable line is $15/mo.

racrgrl - It should sync up fine with your S8, you just won't be able to activate the cell service for the S2. You'd just be using it basically like the wifi version except since it is the 3G version at least you'll have a speaker on the watch
