The Samsung Gear S3 uses the top of the case for the antenna. I see reports that a metal band reduced the range and connectivity from what is available with leather or plastic.

Any insight, confirmation or comments on this? Is it true?

I highly doubt that would be the case. But anything is possible.

I have similar question. As an electrical/electronic engineer, I know that metal bands would change the antenna characteristics some - but just in what way and by how much I can't say. Empirically, I noticed that when outside without my phone, and the Gear was depending on AT&T as well as GPS radio connections, it did not do well with the metal band. I have not tested it in the same place with non-metallic band yet.

Were you using Wi-Fi, Cellular and GPS functions when away from you phone and without active bluetooth connection? I found that around the house it was fine. But outside and away from my phone, it could not pick up cellular or GPS unless I removed the metal band. AT&T cellular where I live has weak signal.
