I've been using Samsung Pay at Central Market for groceries for several months now just fine. Today, as I was using it, the cashier told me they won't accept mobile payments, but I went ahead and used Samsung Pay anyway and it went through fine. However, they canceled the transaction before I could finalize it, and forced me to use my physical credit card.
I was not happy about it called them when I got home to complain to management. They defended themselves and said they don't accept mobile payments like Apple Pay. I told them Samsung Pay was not the same and was working just fine. The manager was not nice about the situation at all, saying they instructed all cashiers to not accept it and even claimed that any transactions that have gone through ok wasn't really going through on their end and that they weren't getting those payments, which is complete BS. These transactions show up on my credit card statement without issue. He went on to transfer to me to their billing specialist who would try to explain to me how they don't support mobile payments and hope to support it in the future. I tried to explain to them how Samsung Pay worked but they weren't hearing it. They said they would have corporate follow up with me further with more information.
This is the first time I've had any resistance from a company to physically not allow Samsung Pay even though it works. I've had instances (as may of us had) where we were told it wouldn't work, and it would work just fine and everyone would be surprised and amused about it. I'm hoping this doesn't happen to others. I will have to try to hide the fact that I'm using Samsung Pay next time when they're not looking to complete my transaction.
