So I've been having a hit or miss time with Samsung Pay at Walmart lately, so I decided to give Walmart Pay a try and it works really well. There are two extra steps required, but it can use your fingerprint for authentication if you have it set. The really nice thing about Walmart Pay is that it keeps track of your receipts and everything you purchase on your app. The camera part works almost instantly.

It also includes Savings Catcher that will give you money back automatically if it finds a lower price on your items elsewhere. Returns are really easy as well because all the electronic receipts have bar codes on the bottom. Also you never have to worry about losing a paper receipt.

I still use Samsung Pay everywhere else, but specifically for Walmart the Walmart Pay app works really well. I never have to worry about it failing and holding up the line. It sucks to have to use two different pay apps now, but that's life I guess. I also have Android Pay on my phone, ugh!

My solution is different. If a brick and mortar store doesn't use Samsung Pay I don't shop there anymore. Simple, and requires only one payment app.

My big issue is all of the individual "store" apps that will have my debit or financial information in them. Samsung Pay works great at my Walmarts, so I have no reason to change.

Why not? I don't care really if they have my purchase history or not.

I'm not the kind of person who wears a tin foil hat all the time wondering if the boogeyman is out to get me.

The app is really nice. I'm actually surprised how well they implemented it.

Walmart already has your credit card data. They store it every single time you make a transaction and keep it in a big database with all the items you purchase with each card. All retail giants do that, which is why we keep having those data breaches that make the banks send you new cards and the retailers offer ID monitoring for a year or whatever. Walmart Pay exists so that the company doesn't have to pay extra moolah to the banks for processing the now mandatory Pin/Chip cards or to Google/Samsung for their respective mobile payment options. I got a big fat FU from the Walmart check out system this afternoon, for trying to do Pin/Chip like I usually do and Samsung Pay won't work at that store any more because they have switched to using ONLY Pin/Chip for ALL cards that have it, so swiping my card through the old MST reader wasn't an option either. Obviously, it seems Walmart wants me to install/use it's app and payment system and it looks like I have no other choice in the matter, so I will do it.

I have not had any of the problems you describe. Walmart pay is there, Samsung pay works like it always has, debit or credit works even with chip and pin. If Walmart pay uses a debit or credit card on file are they saving any fees? They have to process the sale through the card anyways, even with Walmart Pay. The whole deal behind the big companies not paying fees is the use of direct withdraw from your accounts without the use of the credit/debit system.

Samsung pay doesn't work at my local Walmart (not that I really go there that often). It gets declined, and says to use chip reader.

That's very odd. Though mine has quit working at some of the places it always worked. Card machine won't even read the signal. Buddy's s7 still works, my s6 Nada. Though it still works everywhere else still

I have a feeling that eventually Samsung Pay is going to stop working at all Walmarts and Targets. I've been using Walmart Pay for the last 2 weeks and it has worked every single time. There are like 2 extra steps involved, but at least there is no awkwardness anymore wondering if Samsung Pay will work or not with people waiting behind you in line.

I have been using walmart pay too. My gripe is it is so cotton pickin slow. I mean, you have to turn your phone on, log into it, navigate to the walmart app, scroll down to walmart pay, verify it is you, scan, then wait for it to be approved. That wait is long - especially at self check out. You don't even get a receipt so the alarm at the door better not go off :-) Though the receipt is saved, it takes longer to pull up the receipt than to just show the paper to prove you paid.

I agree with you on all counts. Way too many steps to do.

What I do sometimes with Walmart Pay is that as soon as the cashier scans the first item, you can initiate Walmart Pay and be done by the time they finish scanning all your items, but I usually have it ready to go when I am standing in line. I like having the receipt on the phone because you can easily submit it to Savings Catcher. They need to make the app at max a 2 step process.

I bet their is a way for them to print a paper copy receipt, but I have never asked.

I've used Samsung pay at Walmart for a while. But for the last 3 trips, it has declined Samsung pay. Only uses the chip reader. So I had to use my card. I asked the lead supervisor why my Samsung pay seems to have problems now,. She told me that the only phone payment they will accept now is Walmart pay. So that explains why it suddenly stopped working for me.

Mines still works as it always has at Wal-Mart. Used it today.

At Walmart in Hawaii, the charge goes through, but says invalid security code on their register. Such a hassle to deal with. It's the only store that ever gives me hassles.

They have your data if you use their wifi or a shopping app and they track you on your phone while you shop. Plus if you use any card they can track you. Cash and not using wifi is the only way for a store not to track you. I personally don't care, because I'm not buying anything suspicious, but it's the general idea. So I still use a card but don't use a shopping app or their wifi (unlimited on t-mobile anyway).

So while you're working on paying, you're not watching the cashiers? I get several that accidentally scan twice, they take it off as soon as they realize that, but I'm sure some haven't. I don't get any wrong prices, my aunt says she does every time she goes in, but she watches more carefully.

Walmart is sneaky. I get double scanned all the time. I blame their scanners for not properly pausing after each scan.

I know I'm late on this thread but I would not recommend Samsung Pay at Walmart. I had a double charge issue where the bank and Walmart couldn't remove it and I had to wait a week for it to fall off.

I just recently used Walmart Pay and it is excellent so far. Very fast and your receipt is stored in the Walmart app.

Samsung pay is definitely a hit and miss and unreliable.

It's hit and miss in certain areas from the sounds of it. My area is all hit. Never had an issue. But that said the Walmart pay app is very good and functional. Just feels wierd not getting a paper receipt! Almost like you didn't pay at all!
