Why does your site have to destroy my computer?

I have a laptop with an i7 and 8gigs of ram but your site is killing me... I love the content but I'm afraid I'm going to have to resort to an RSS feed or something. After noticing the continued fan spin on my laptop when visiting your site I ran some comparisons to other sites I frequent. Maybe I hadn't realized how much work a site like the Verge puts into optimizing but this seems crazy. Check the stats

I agree , but the site has even bigger issues than that like the review section which is a train wreck with that slow grid layout and I can't listen to old podcasts in order anymore :(. Definitely worse than it used to be.

I have a laptop with a 5th gen i3 and 4GB RAM. I'm running Windows 10, Opera 33, AdBlock+ enabled. I can't observe the behavior of Chrome. I keep it off my computer.

I opened Task Manager just now and observed Opera in my Processes. I sampled 4 refreshes each for the Forums and the Blog. Here are my highest #'s of the 4 samplings. Forum 7.4% peak CPU load, Blog 7.9% peak CPU load. Mostly it coasts through a refresh cycle at around 4 or 5% with one little spike. I can't come close to the more than 25% CPU load you are seeing.

I respectfully suggest it is not the site per se so much as your set up.

I do believe the sites are heavy due to ads. Are you running any Ad Blocking software or a Hosts File to reduce the loading of Ads? That would help. What about site plug-ins? Are you disabling any plug-ins for content like Java, Flash, Active X, etc...?

What are you doing to optimize your browsing experience? What might you have done to degrade it? Is everything uo to date on your rig for software (especially Chrome), browser plug-ins and hardware drivers? What extensions in Chrome have you examined that might be contributing? What extensions are you running?

Our Tech team at Mobile Nations would need a lot more details than you have provided in order to replicate what you are seeing.

IMHO, you may be better served by coming over to Windows Central to read and discuss how to make your rig surf better. Certainly, your experience on the site leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm sure it can be improved...

Windows Central Forums The Passport you use to log into AC will get you into WC, you are already a member.

It's mainly the ads (use a blocking hosts file such as MVPS to block them which will help). See this thread for more info: http://forums.androidcentral.com/si...ms-very-slow-does-anyone-else-experience.html

It's also the site redesign that was started a year ago last summer. Despite their attempts to optimize it since then it still doesn't match the performance of the old site design. :(

See these threads:

Smh the site actually was worth a damn before the "redesign'

Why can't you listen to podcasts in order anymore?

Oh hey Phil thanks for replying, I was watching some of the older podcasts( before 120) and the podcasts aren't listed in order, unless I'm just plain stupid which is possible :p. Oh and to clarify this is on the website itself.

Yeah, that page isn't ideal. Best thing would be to use a podcatcher.

Why listen?

Are they worth listening to.
Magic tricks. Stand up comedy.

I have only heard 7 or 8, and recently, but I respect your enthusiasm.
