So, we all know that the Snapdragon 810 has an incredibly troubled reputation, from overheating issues to poor power efficiency compared to previous Krait SoCs.

The 820 is set to help Qualcomm retake its reputation before the 810 turns it into shambles.

So far, we know that it'll be manufactured by Samsung Semiconductor on their 14nm FinFET process and will also feature Qualcomm's custom ARMv8 64-bit CPU, called "Kryo".

Here are some new facts from a recent leak.

    • The CPU in the 820, called "Hydra", performs 35% better than the Cortex A57 and A53 cluster in the 810.
    • There is a new GPU called the Adreno 530. It performs 40% better than the Adreno 430 in the 810 while also being 30% better in power-efficiency.

It will also likely be a quad-core.

The Snapdragon 808 already performs more than well-enough for me, and I'm usually the type who knows that specs don't matter much on a phone as stuff like UX optimization matters more, but my geeky and nerdy side's already pretty excited from those numbers alone. What do you think?

Looking forward to the Adreno 530.

What we need is more stable GPUs that don't hog so much battery on the process.

Hopefully it will support natively the Vulkan API once it arrives on Android.

Too bad there won't be a new Nexus with the 820 until next Fall (unless Google throws us a curve and changes their customary Fall release dates).
