Restore after 2.1 Root?

I updated to 2.1 OTA and from wat i see it looks like I'll need to wipe the phone when the 2.1 rooted gets installed. After I root it and get everything back up and running, how does restoration work on the Droid? I'm used to working with Blackberry devices, and I know how to do it all on there, but after a wipe I'll have to reinstall all apps and redownload them from App World, which does keep a list of the apps I installed. On the Droid, when i wipe it, how does it handle getting my apps back on the phone? Will it automatically put them back? Will it have a list of the apps in a list where i can easily re-download them?

I believe you will have to re-download all your apps. The only ones it keeps a list of are your paid apps, and thats only so you don't have to pay again to re-download the app.
