Pre-kitchen Question

I downloaded the utility last night and I'm obviously doing something wrong. I connected via usb (didn't mount) and tried to remove the Sprint apps. I do have HTC sync installed but haven't synced any data. Do I have to root 1st?

Sorry for my ignorance ... any help is greatly appreciated.

hey all,
Sorry for being such a noob. But I can't for the life of me get the auto-rooter to work . Should I dl the HTC Sync first? I have the phone in debug but it won't go. After I hit the "root" button my phone goes to reboot but I get a little error display of a triangle w an exclamation mark inside of it and a phone under that?!? This is really frustrating me. I've never tried to root before...

Once you have root, and recovery, (You can tell by holding home and end keys during boot) you just download the ROM zip file to the Root of your SD card. Just mount your card, drag the zip file (don't unzip) to your card. Reboot into recovery, choose flash zip from SD card, and choose the Fresh (or any) CDMA ROM and it will flash to your phone.
