Xperia Z keeps shutting down apps...

I use my Xperia z for a fair few things but just recently it has started shutting down applications. When I go back to the application it is right where I left it, it doesnt shut the app down completely however, I was wondering (it just did it right there! Haha) if anyone has/is experiencing the same problem?
I am worried there is either somekind of virus on it or someone has hacked it? Maybe a bit far fetched (?) but it's irritating and slightly worrying.
Is this just a sign of an aging smartphone (had it for just over a year and five months)?
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

What do you mean by shutting down apps? Do you mean that the app suddenly exits while you're still using it? If so, and if the app goes right back to where it was when you restart it, are you sure you're not accidentally tapping the Back or Home button while using the app?
