Why do I keep getting code when receiving a text message?

Keep getting code when receiving a text message

I'm new to android so I have no idea if this is normal or not. Have a Sony z3 and once I updated to Lollipop 5.1.1 I get this message now:

brMessage onReceive() - Attempt to invoke virtual method 'boolean java.lang.String.equals(java.lang.Object)' on a null object refrence

Is this because I'm using my phone when I get a text, have a third party app filtering my notifications or a problem with my service provider? I still gets texts but it has become harder to know if mine send. They used to appear black with a time stamp but after update they're grey and no time stamp. People have received my texts so that might just be an update change.

I too get the same message whenever I receive a text message. I use an AndroidOne device that used stock android. So the problem seems to be with the base build and guess that google has to release a patch.
