Changing ions?

I love my BB, but sadly it can't do what I need it to do anymore. I need the physical keyboard, so i ordered an Epic 4g slider yesterday. I tried a Samsung Replenish a while back, but went back to a BB after a few months. I think the switch to Android will be permanent this time though. *sigh*
I always made my own themes on the BB, is there any way to do this on the Epic--without rooting it? Is there a way to change out the icons and/or indicators?

Using a custom launcher can allow you to use replacement icons without root. To theme the system framework, however, you need to have root in order to overwrite the existing framework. You would begin by pulling the stock framework and associated system apks, deodexing them, then modifying the images, xml files, ect.
