I was wondering if i can provision the Epic to be using the PRL's of US Cellular and not Sprint. I got the phone moved over to US Cellular.

The phone works but the data stopped working after about an hour after the activation. Main reason i think is because it is still running off the Sprint network first.

I have done a lot of research and no luck with changing in PRL info. Is there a ROM that will allow you to provision on another carrier?
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Not a pro on Android but am good with technology.

    Thanks

It can be done, I've done it with vzw feature phones.

I never got the data to work correctly, it may be different with a android since everything is changeable.

The main thing is getting a us cellular prl then flashing it via QPST, once you do that, then change the system id to us cellulars.

Then you will be on the network, call 611 to verify.

The hard part is getting activated, what I did was tell them over the phone that it was a model phone us cell carried, so fascinate ( I think) is what you would say.

This is really advanced stuff, are you comfortable with doing it?

Sorry I was unaware that you already went through the whole activation process.

What you need to do is you need to check the samsung fascinate on uscellular, Or similar android phone and get all of it settings in the service menus Once you get all the data information and put it into your epic you should be good to go.

I have the samsung mesmerize (the US Cellular's fascinate). Do you have any clue what files those would be?

There are quite a few and the few times i tried either did not work or stopped the phone from workin

Look for the ##3282# dialer codes and stuff in the forums, pull all those settings out and input them into your epic.

I followed a lot of this article:
Epic 4g to Boost Mobile (how to get the 3g working)- 2/4/11 UPDATE (MMS & VM WORKING) - xda-developers
i copied over a lot of the data from my USCC phone to the sprint phone an now the phone works connects to USCC towers and not Sprint (thats a plus).

But i still have Sprint PRL and when i dial *228 to update it says FAIL.

    Data does not work though.

What items in the phone would affect the data? HA Password? AAA Password? ?? I could not find any info on this. Maybe i dont know the key tearms to look for.

    Thanks

well if the talk is working on the phone, then its clearly using USCCs towers WITHOUT the prl.

i told u what u should do to load the prl. but i dont think the prl change will get your data to work right.

you have google talk or some kind of chat we could use for faster dialog?

u know the dialer codes for the epic right? like the ## stuff, make sure everything is copied perfectly from the uscc phone over, *228 will not work
you will have to change the system id in your area uscc uses.
then find a current PRL, load that via QPST and you should be good to go.

I totally over looked the PRL thing in QPST. I have loaded one in there. Not the latest but close enough for now.

Now the last thing is data. I think it has to do with username and password. Not sure I have tried to match the ## codes but they are different on each phone i have. What are the User Name and Password for the data (not asking for the actual username and password just what they are called and where if possible)?

Also the voicemail alerts are still going to the old phone.... Weird, the old phone does not make calls but gets the vm alerts.

I do have Google Talk would you be able to help on the data thing?.. never used it but i have it. Also it seems i get a little farther after i post something on here so i am hoping this post will do the same .

Msged you. Now i think i am at the final point but i see many people have had issues with this. The AN setting under PPP Config are not changing . I change them but they revert back. Anyone know how to make these changes stick. I am using QPST 2.7 362 could not find build 369. Any other app that will change this?

I PMed you. Now the onlything i need (i think) is that in QPST under PPP Config and the AN section my User ID and password will not save, it reverts after every restart. I am on QPST 2.7 362.

Not sure if this thread is still active, but I have been successful in this process. I used DFS rather than QPST. It was only a trial version, but it seemed to work. I pulled the settings from my USCC HTC Desire, and pushed the settings through DFS to the SPH-D700 Epic 4g. After this, I had to change the build.prop file on the Epic to ensure that all necessary settings were set to USCC.

The combination of the two of these has voice/data/sms/mms all functioning the way they should!

**After pullng settings from old phone in DFS, and pushing them to the new phone, follow the instructions below.
Back up your current ROM first!

    Instructions are for rooted phones:
Temporary method - Should be used first to ensure everything works

    1. Turn on Airplane mode

    2. Use APN Backup app (available for free on market), and pulled my APN from my desire, then restored it to Epic.

    3. From the phone, Run Terminal Emulator, and type the following:
    (You DO type the quotes)

    su
    mount -o rw,remount -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system
    setprop cdma.home.operator.alpha Sprint
    setprop cdma.home.operator.numeric 310120
    setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric ""
    setprop gsm.sim.operator.alpha ""
    setprop gsm.sim.operator.iso-country ""
    setprop gsm.operator.alpha USCC
    setprop gsm.operator.numeric ""
    setprop gsm.operator.iso-country ""
    setprop gsm.sim.state READY
    setprop gsm.operator.isroaming false

    4. Turn off Airplane Mode

    5. See step 7 from below

DONE! - Everything worked for me at this point. (Will only last until reboot, and setprops will need to be done again)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this worked for you, then you can do the following PERMANENT solution:

    1. Turn on airplane mode, then from terminal Emulator on phone type:
    su
    mount -o rw,remount -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system

    2. Then from SDK on computer using ADB, do the following:
    adb pull /system/build.prop

    3. Open build.prop using text editor and find or add the lines below, then save the file:
    ro.csc.sales_code=USC
    ril.sales_code=USC
    ro.carrier=uscc
    ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha Sprint
    ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric 310120
    gsm.sim.operator.numeric ""
    gsm.sim.operator.alpha ""
    gsm.sim.operator.iso-country ""
    gsm.operator.alpha USCC
    gsm.operator.numeric ""
    gsm.operator.iso-country ""
    gsm.sim.state READY
    gsm.operator.isroaming false

    4. Then type in adb:
    adb push build.prop /data/local/tmp/build.prop
then go to terminal emulator on phone *(assumes you have busybox installed on phone)*
    busybox mv /data/local/tmp/build.prop /system/build.prop
    mount -o ro,remount -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system[/COLOR]

    5. Turn off Airplane Mode

    6. Reboot phone

    7. Download Gscript Lite

    Create new Script file
Make sure to check the box next to - Needs SU?

Enter the following - You do need the Quotes!

    setprop gsm.sim.operator.alpha "uscc"
    setprop.gsm.sim.operator.numeric "310730"
    setprop gsm.sim.operator.iso-country "us"
    setprop gsm.operator.alpha "U.S.Cellular"
    setprop gsm.operator.numeric "31000"
    setprop gsm.operator.iso-country "us"
    setprop net.cdma.pppd.authtype "require-chap"
    setprop net.cdma.pppd.user "user USCC"

Save the script. ~ Script will need to be run anytime your connection changes. Monitor with app such as NetworkInfo.

    ALL DONE!

Doing what was in the above helped for a little bit, but I have had to continually change the Rev Tunnelling check box back and forth. A day or two with data, then I switch to the other setting and get another day or 2. That is the setting in the ##3282# menu.

I also downloaded an app called Gscript Lite

Put the following in the script file
You must use the quotation marks

    setprop gsm.sim.operator.alpha "uscc"
    setprop.gsm.sim.operator.numeric "310730"
    setprop gsm.sim.operator.iso-country "us"
    setprop gsm.operator.alpha "U.S.Cellular"
    setprop gsm.operator.numeric "31000"
    setprop gsm.operator.iso-country "us"
    setprop net.cdma.pppd.authtype "require-chap"
    setprop net.cdma.pppd.user "user USCC"

The "Needs SU?" checkbox should be checked.

I added a widget for this script to my home screen, I also added a widget called networkinfo. It shows what cdma information you are currently running. So every time I change areas, or towers, I just tap the script button on the home screen, and it connects me to USCC. You have to hit the button after a reboot, or if your phone times out for too long, but it usually stays connected for an hour or so after my phone screen shuts off. I am in an area of terrible reception though, so if you are in a better area, you may stay connected longer after each script use.

I am trying to do the same thing with my Epic, as I love this phone. Paid good money for it and it seemed to of became useless after I switched from sprint to us cellular because of where I lived. Sprint did not have good enough signal. Doesn't help that I am not good with technical things either. So if someone can please let me know how to communicate with them to deliver step by step directions, like to my e-mail addy, that would be awsome. I miss my Epic.

I can read and edit my epic but i can't connect the mes to read my uscc data from it. im going to try setting up a second computer with just the mes drivers and seeing if i can pull the data that way then send it to the epic computer. I tried the apn swap but that still didnt get data. voice and sms work. haven't tried mms yet. thanks
