Shameful that Sprint salespeople are purposefully lying to their customers about the Note's specs.

All literature for this damned phone says 4G LTE which I'm pretty certain any reasonable person could interpret as being both WiMAX and LTE.
I guess then you are the lone "reasonable person" on this forum, because you seem to have been the only one who was surprised. Look, I'm sorry that you took "4G" to mean Wimax, and I can kind of understand maybe how that could have happened. But basically I still contend that it is never a good plan to "assume" that a phone has a particular feature when it does not appear in official Sprint literature BY NAME. 4G is a generic term, weather Sprint used it in marketing materials originally to mean Wimax (since they originally they only had Wimax for their 4G). In any case, there was never a phone that Sprint put out, to my knowledge that has BOTH Wimax and LTE, it's one or the other. Sprint stopped offering new phones with Wimax and started offering ones with LTE earlier this year.

I understand that Sprint reps sometimes are clueless. Best bet in the future to avoid these kinds of issues is just to post questions here about a phone BEFORE buying it. You certainly still have the ability to return it if you need Wimax, but you probably won't find anything newer than a year or so with Wimax. Hopefully Sprint's roll-out of LTE will go faster than expected and will really start covering all their areas well...

There are definitely a lot of people with no idea about the difference between WiMax and LTE.

Just as an example; most of my friends and close family members come to me with questions when they want to buy a new gadget. If you were to ask them about a new phone with LTE they would believe is the same 4G as their Evo or Photon.

Sent from my Photon 4G that Stupid Motorola will not upgrade to ICS or any other newer form of Android because they're a bunch of lying bastards (and deserve to go to hell!) using Android Central Forums

It was never said anywhere that the old 4G wouldn't work. When I got my Evo 4G way back when, it was obvious that the phone would have both a WiMAX antenna as well as a 3G CDMA antenna. No problem.

Sprint has exclusively branded their WiMAX as '4G'. Not 4G WiMAX. When talking about their LTE rollout, they call it the LTE rollout. All literature for this damned phone says 4G LTE which I'm pretty certain any reasonable person could interpret as being both WiMAX and LTE. Why would I assume that they would just throw away their entire 4G WiMAX network? Why would they not keep it active in order to have greater service areas for their customers?

I could care less if some people who want to boost their own self-esteem want to try to call me stupid. Whatever. My intention was to have a post somewhere.. ANYWHERE that would actually say this explicitly about this phone. Maybe help someone else not get surprised by their new phone having unusuable data speeds out the gate. I'm not going to pitch the phone, but it will be sitting on my coffee table until I can actually recieve data with it. The S2 had issues, but it damnsure had 4G service everywhere I went.
I completely understand your frustrations. I have never seen the documentation on the device your speaking of, but to my knowledge there has never or was never intended for any device to have 2 "4G" radio's. Basically to support Sprint's WiMax 4G and Sprint new LTE 4G it would require two separate radio chips since they are written to only support a certain set/unchangeable frequency.

This would increase phone size, cost, weight and battery life would be down right horrible having to power yet another chip.

I do fault Sprint and other carrier's reps for not being more clear on the details of things when pushing a new device on a customer. I have seen and heard first hand where they describe things in simple terms for the common customer and it can be far from the actual truth of what they are talking about.

Sorry if you posted this already but when did you purchase this device? Have you considered either A. Keeping it until the remainder of your current contract or B. Selling it on EBay or CL and then upgrading to a new LTE phone? Things to consider also is LTE is still in its early stages with Sprint, even areas that are officially announced as having Sprint's LTE active are still only at best in the 50% finished range. So what I'm saying is LTE is going to be sweet, but its still in its early stages and if your capable of waiting or holding out on Wimax for a while longer it may benefit you better in the long run until the LTE network on Sprint grows up a little bit more.

I had to get a Verizon Jetpack mifi device just so I could have data coverage with my Galaxy Note 2. If you're on a Verizon data sharing plan, the mifi device at $20/month is actually cheaper than Sprint tethering, not to mention is actually works!
This is what I have done. Plus I get a 20% discount, so we get 10gb foe the price of 8.

Maybe the OP should start calling and complaining about his 3g, maybe they will send you an air rave.

Sprint and Clearwire Seperate ways? Sprint buys majority control of Clearwire......What phone does he have that would be new that has 4G wimax? That stopped those....And WiMax 4G will be in service til around 2014.....
Split separate ways as in Sprint basically marketing / selling anymore phones with wimax in it. They don't back it anymore, at least not publicly. I never said the service was going kaput, just that new phones wouldn't have the wimax radio inside of them ( there is a 4G radio in place of the wimax one ) and I am pretty sure since he posted this in the GN II section of the forums he has a GN II. I have a GS2 now, still use wimax sporadically like I stated earlier. Clearwire is still expanding their coverage I believe, but their storefronts / kiosk's have all but vanished from the DC area.

You are probably farther up in MD than I am. I don't get wimax until I go in alexandria. Oxon hill didn't get wimax, I could have clarified that but wasn't thinking about it.
