And to think I wanted a Galaxy Tab for xmas. Not no mo'!

I'm actually really surprised that sammy even put out an update to the E4GT to squash a few bugs. I guess sammy feels that if it ain't actually broke, don't fix it...meaning if they were to upgrade the GS and tabs with ICS, it could create problems with features that they don't want to fix. But at the same time, I feel that people have moved on to better phones so why upgrade the GS? The Tab? Now that's a different story. They have put out 3 or 4 different variants of the GT and haven't announced a successor yet so why are they holding out getting ICS?? My guess is that a new tab is comming and they want you to but it making you believe that it will be supported also with a new update...but of coarse it won't....with sammy's record.

I think I'll move to a different brand of tablet instead of the GT....when I can afford one, so I'm accepting donations.

it's the first gen. galaxy tab with the 7" display that won't be getting ICS. the rest afterwards are getting ICS.

The point is that the Galaxy S is only a year old and already abandoned. I am going with the fruit phone next time, at least I know apple will update my phone for years after the sale. And real updates, not bug fixes.

    Here's the deal. I don't blame them.
Samsung is a huge <insert multiple electronics here> maker. The hummingbird chip was and is still awesome. It could be over locked to 1.6-1.8 . It ran games it had no business running (galaxy on fire 2).

The next time you walk into best lie walk to the specialized Samsung department. I found the 10.1 tab, 8.9 , galaxy tab plus 7.7 the original galaxy tab 7 and Samsung 5. That was just the tablets.

Samsung has many international versions and wifi only versions (p-1010 anyone?) . I can't blame them for putting everything they gave and flooding the market. But at what point do you think they can support all these devices ?

Let's count apples devices. iPhone 4/4s/3G/3GS iPod touch different generations and iPads.
The mainly all have the same processor or same architecture of processors.

Samsung has unfortunately (IMO) given into other carriers and developed and mingled with different types of processors. Tegra 2, Exynos, Hummingbird, Omap, and I believe snapdragon s2.
I don't expect them to support previous devices. The HTC Evo isn't officially getting ICS. Do I care? Not really. I'd rather have something fully functional and optimized to the best performance....which is why apple does so well with their hardware. One company, one or 2 chips, extremely optimized code. That's what software these days is coming to. Don't completely rewrite something , cut your code down and optimize for the hardware you are running.

I had a galaxy tab. I did not expect for it to be supported. That being said, if you want ICS on your device, root it. Support the XDA developers who spend their lives supporting hardware and optimizing code. D you know that a 2+ year old phone with 1 core processor can run ICS? The phone was originally a windows mobile 6 (perhaps even 5) device. The HTC HD2. By the sheer willpower of XDA developers they've gone to great lengths of supporting devices. They are the ones I would count on.

Go with the Asus transformer or the Sony tablet. Asus has demonstrated they will take care of you, and Sony has stated their intention to prioritize updates in the future.

They said the Galaxy S II but haven't stated which ones. They have the international versions and three different GS II's on three different carriers. While I believe our E4GT will get updated, I just don't think it will be before thanksgiving 2012. I could be wrong though as I have been wrong before

On another note, they said the og TAB would not get ICS....but my best guess is that the 7.7 won't either.

I'm leaning in that direction. Not because I don't like sammy products and it's not because the updates are so late, it's because of the lack of updates after a new product is launched.

While I agree that we should support the dev community (as they are best thing since buttered bread), I don't agree that sammy has SO many products that they can't support all of them....but they should. Why? It's thier product! They have teams of developers and R&D specialists that develope the software for initial release and should be supported until it's EOL on the carrier....at the least. But it seems these devs are taking way to many vacations and spit out an update only when it becomes nesessary to shut people up. LOL, but fwiw, I love my E4GT and wouldn't trade it for any...ANY HTC, Apple, or LG product.

I agree with you that apple continues to support its products years later but I still won't buy one. I just wish sammy had the kahuna's to do the same.

Here's the deal (my little take on things):
When you control the market and other phones are trying to compete or catch up to you (apple) you don't *need* to upgrade your phone every 6 months or bring an entirely new phone out - if you do it's to bring new customers in -not necessarily upgrade/upbring previous versions. It's sort of like the restaurant business - If you go to a restaurant that costs $50 after all is said and done for 2 people - and the service is excellent, so excellent they even messed up your one plate of pasta and brought penne instead of angel hair; fix it - and they give you the dessert on the house, you are going to remember that. You are also probably going to come back there - unless you totally hate the food.
Apple has of course done a similar concept. Appeal to the individuals, win the hearts, and then appeal to the masses. Talk about quality of a product. Talk about the support. Drum up how aestethically pleasing it looks to a donut. You get the drift.
Samsung and every other manufacturer need to bring something to the table year in and year out, if not 2xyear in, 2xyear out. There is never going to be the "perfect" phone - the manufacturer's can't afford it! Do you know what would happen if the phone you had had EVERYTHING you wanted, BT3, fingerprint scanner, face unlock, 18 hour battery, upgrades to OS 1 month after release? They would never sell anything else, they couldn't promote their own processors or anything for that matter (Hello Hummingbird and Exynos) they couldn't get you to buy their new SUPER Amoled + HD Ultra Clear 1920 display, etc. NO PROFIT for them.
A lot more goes into updating then this discussion involves or even we want to believe. Take the business side of things: no profit. Why doesn't the new QUAD core Asus Prime come with 4GB of RAM? 8? Is it a business (monetary) decision? Or is it because if they give you everything you want - you won't want to buy the newer more expensive product (TF101 vs TF201)? Their screen is brighter than before but still 1280x800 resolution. Is it any coincidence that 3 major phone manufacturers have released phones 4" or larger with 1280x720 or higher resolution? A new quad core is supposed to be coming with full 1920x1080 resolution. Asus doesn't have that technology?
Again, it all goes back to what can we do to get the consumer to buy us. That statement 2 lines back was a cheap shot at asus due to market conditions the first one to market quad core at a good price has a huge advantage. Samsung won't update first generation devides - not to mention I believe they hired THE creator of cyanogenmod to work for them? They know their original tabs will live on - they don't need to divert valuable resources when they need to work on their NEXT phone.
That being said, the SGS2 E4GT will ABSOLUTELY dollars to donuts have ICS come out on Sprint for it. I would guess early February to late Februuary if not sooner. You can bet Sprint is pushing for it as well. E4GT is Sprint's BABY regardless what people think about HTC. How many phones in Sprint's lineup can use a Logitech V470 BT mouse and Apple BT keyboard and type this on their 1080P FULL hdtv? Not many.

I was just trying to be funny. But in all honesty, it will be awhile.

Anywho, my wife got me the Acer iconia a500 16GB for Xmas. She wanted to get me the 10 inch G tab but was too expensive and she got this at a great price and I love it!

    Merry Christmas everyone!
