Is the new update that is being pushed (as of 8/8/12) still FF18 firmware or is it something else?

I'm getting confused with all these threads about the "new" ICS update - and if these refer to the original ICS update(FF18 from EL29 Gingerbread), or if the "new" is really the new one with a different firmware number...

It is the same if it is the ota. They stopped it for a week and added a clear cache for Swype. Its all the same ff18 though.

There is no "new" update, and FF18 is the most current available software version. The confusion popped up because the update roll out was suspended, then it started again. When it resumed, some assumed it was an "updated" update, but it was the same FF18 update as before. The only difference was they added a few lines of code to the update script to automatically clear data on the Swype keyboard when installing the update.

Thanks for the clarification and the notes on what they actually updated... now I can stop worrying that I'm missing some wiz-bang new update to ICS..

I'm also confused. I was told from Sprint that a "new " update was being pushed to people who updated the first version along w/ one for the people who never got the first one. I made the lady repeat it back to me a few times saying a fix to the first update was going out. I did'nt think it was true ,but that what I was told. She said all updates should be pushed out by the 16th.
This unbelievable how this is being handled...I've been walling around for basicly a month now with a phone that has been rendered useless to me. I removed everything from my phone ,shut off all date during the day and keep it in airplane mode when I'm in a bad reciption area. All this just to have enough battery to make a call at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. I might as well be carring around a bag phone.
My wife also has this phone and hasn't recieved any updates at all yet...Crazy

My experience with Sprint is most of the time I can talk to 5 people and get 5 different stories, who knows.

you want answers then go down to a Sprint store....that's what I did....much better customer service than calling Sprint's *2....Just my 2 cents!

The OTA ICS update I received and installed last weekend was FF18, and I'm now dealing with major battery drain.

Unless/until a new version of ICS comes out that is NOT FF18, I will continue to decline the update notifications. I'm so glad I went back to EL29 (Gingerbread), which is the stock OS..and said good riddance to FF18....

i spoke with a sprint tech support specialist last week and mentioned the problems with ff18 and she said they've gotten a lot of complaints ranging from battery life to WiFi to incompatibilities. she says that they are working on an update to come out in the next 3 weeks or so. Weather thats true or not cant tell ( she said google was working on it not sprint or samsung) at least they are aware of issues with it and hopefully will do something about it. Then again with samsung stating gs2's will be getting jelly bean maybe they'll simply wait for that to come out.
