Galaxy S3 Turning off pop-ups for notifications

How do I stop getting a pop-up every time I get a new text? I want to have the audio notification go off, but don't want the constant pop-ups.

1) What application?; stock system app or name of app you asking about.
2) Rooted or non-rooted
3) ROM you are using (Stock or custom)
4) Android version
