I don't look at my phone when I'm driving other than when I'm stopped, so yes, I keep it in my cup holder...having something like this in my line of sight may provide a distraction...I'm liking the idea of putting it on the left but it looks like I'm going to have an extra cord hanging there since I won't be using the auxiliary cable, not to mention how the cable is secured/ tucked away across the dash from the unit to the outlet...holy moly do I HATE cords showing...what set up do you all use?
Also, I love my Google nav, but what about when you don't have a good connection? I'm afraid to rely too heavily on Google nav....Do I misunderstand how it works? Will nav work without a signal?

Ahh, so youre one of the few that I have to honk at after the light turns green! Just kidding...unless you are!
First, the 9ft cable that iBolt gives you is long enough in most cases to tuck in the headliner or around trim. Secondly, there is only one cable, but it splits into two parts at the end...one with the 3.5mm jack and the USB port. I will have to remember to take a pic of my new setup, but here is a photo of how I had my Epic 4G Touch (with Samsung Infuse 4G dock).
I now have my iBolt dock mounted high (I am tall) next to my rear-view mirror, which gives me a great view for pics that I want to take of traffic issues, easy reach to change my podcast or Pandora station, and since my rear-view mirror is also in my line of sight, it isnt intrusive. My wife had hers on the left since she is left handed, which shows the flexibility of the iBolt dock. But I do recognize that what isnt a distraction to me can be to others. There are many aftermarket radios that have bluetooth, AUX jack, and USB interface that can charge and connect to your phone.
In regards to needing a signal, this varies by your locale. If I am going to travel somewhere without coverage, I can cache GoogleMaps (only a certain area). Otherwise, there are navigation apps that you can download that do not rely on a data connection. I mainly use Waze, as I am usually covered in data (even though I dont have 4G LTE yet).
