Minor issue to note in case anyone runs into it. I flashed the Nexus S 4G version of the new recovery and it didn't work right, my phone would go the bootloader screen saying no recovery image. Just flash the Google Nexus S version of recovery instead and it's working for me now.

Yes the OP did mention that flashing the recovery can be a bit fussy at times and may need to be repeated to get it to stick.... I was lucky and it worked great the first time around.
How are you updating? I came from CWM 3.1 0.1 and updated as explained using the bootloader and placing the file in my sdk folder and entering the code in command prompt. First time was the charm.
i tried flashing the NS4G clockwork mod, but it won't stick, so i tried the Nexus S one and it seemed to work at first. But every time I go to boot into recovery, i get the Android robot error. I reflashed it and tried to manually install Oxygen but the download keeps failing and it pops the error sign in the background. Luckily i was able to restore my data.
Wth is the problem here? I can't install any roms or kernels.
I have a silly question - if cwm is working fine, why would I upgrade or do this? I'm running cwm7,
have used other roms and have had zero problems.
In other words, why rock my perfect setup???
You don't have to if you don't want to... Its only an optional upgrade. Supposed to be faster backups and a few other minor changes. Oh ya you get a purty blue color...
