If it's not officially signed by Sprint, it may stop the ability to receive OTAs. So it's best to just roll back and get the OTA when someone posts the .zip for it OR just wait until Google posts it to their servers.
Honestly... as quick as this update came around who really cares if its signed by Sprint or not...
If there's a bug specific to Sprint, you won't be able to get it fixed via OTA. Now that the phone finally has it, update OTAs shouldn't take this long.
sorry, I'm new to this stuff but I have a question.
I have a NS4G that isn't on a line with Sprint.
Will I still get the OTA update, I'm confused if Google or Sprint roll out the update.
I bought the phone with bad esn, I'm just waiting to get the update.
If not, is it possible to update by downloading the update onto the phone and boot into recovery and click "install update.zip?"
As in download the official sprint version manually?
please let me know, thanks again!

Worst case you will have to install the update.zip when it becomes available
okay. but I mean, do you know if I'd be able to get the update?
like if I wait, will google send me the notification?
I got the google play notification...
Well if it has a bad ESN and its not currently active on any carrier there is a good chance you will not receive the OTA update. Even via WIFI. I'm not certain here but given its got a bad ESN and not reactivated under Metro or Boost, etc.. there could be a block on it from receiving anything.
Yeah, that's not the OTA at all. It's just the leak and that "update.zip" won't even work. You'll have to use Odin or Fastboot if you want that to work. If you're going to use those, you might as well just use the factory images of 4.0.4 straight from Google and not some unofficial leak.
