New to the forum but have been following for awhile about this update.
Just thought I'd let everyone know that I woke up this morning and got 4.0.4. in Indiana.
    So far looks very nice.

In NH, no update yet. Tried checkin thing 3 or 4 times and nothing. I'm wondering if people getting the update after checkin was a coincidence. Might just breakdown and sideload it during lunch

It wasn't a coincidence I checked before using the checkin and it wasn't there.

It's interesting because someone (maybe it was Ryuuie?) posted that 'checkin' wouldn't work with this update because it was coming from Google and not Sprint. Either that was inaccurate info or I completely imagined that whole discussion...

It is strange. Using checkin did work for me, as well, just typed the key sequence in and the update started downloading right away. I guess it worked for a lot of users, but not for everyone. Granted, checkin only worked for me yesterday(10 April) it did not work when I tried it over the weekend, so it may still rely on the update actually being assigned to your serial number/region, but it does seem certain you can jump start it.

Update: checkin appears to have finally worked for me (this was my 4th or 5th try since last night). It is currently downloading the 138MB update at a whooping 0.10Mbps... I get really marginal 3G reception in my office and no wifi

Oh well, on the charger it goes, hopefully it will be done before I head home

My phone got the update last night, unprovoked. Was just watching TV when a notification came up that an update was ready to install.

It's been running awesome since. Everything is consideribly faster and smoother.

One thing I am EXTREMELY happy to report is that my phone isn't losing battery life while on standby nearly as bad. 4 hours after unplugging my phone from the charger and it's still sitting pretty at 91%. Any other day with Gingerbread and I'd be in the 70's.
