Question regarding USB Mass Storage and MTP

I was under the impression when the NS4G made the jump from 2.3.x to 4.0.x the USB Partiton on the phone would be reclaimed and access to this area would be via MTP (Like my Galaxy Tab 10.1).

I was a bit surprised to see after the OTA my phone retained its USB partition and I can access like I could back on 2.3.x.

Is this by design? IE: Would flashing the full stock ROM restore the phone the way the Galaxy Nexus'/Tab 10.1 file system is setup?

Just curious is all. Search didn't really turn up much on the subject that I could find.

Nope it still uses the standard SD partition.

I'm aware it is still the old partition style.

My confusion is from the fact that I was under the assumption ICS didn't support that style with internal memory (IE: Phones/Devices w/o removable storage).
