Just received my Photon 4G!

I have some friends who will be buying this phone, but I'm doing some searching on it for them. Does it have the same "3d" effect as the Droid 3 does when you flick through screens or no?

That's not much of a 3d effect imho. You can always user lpp and achieve a much greater 3d effect when scrolling from home screen to home screen.

Bought this phone off of the marketplace on android forums. from what i can tell so far is that its a really nice phone. feels nice in the hand, battery cover is nice and grippy. fiddled with the home screens a little bit, pretty snappy. havent really been able to get into the phone yet so i will update later with my thoughts. but i can honestly say that the Evo 3D will have its hands full with this phone. its a BEAST!

I would like to know if the camera button on the side is Multi-step?

As in, similar to the button on the Evo 3D or Samsung Epic, where you push it slightly to focus, then all the way down to take the picture??

The camera button looks kinda flat and hard to press. :\

I'm not sure what a pentile screen is. Like difference wise. But I can tell a difference from this phone and my 3D. This screen is just as crisp and clear. Only difference is this phones screen gets SUPER BRIGHT! Both are pretty nice but both are different. Tomorrow I'll have a better review with some pics.

If you want to see the worst of the pentile screen, check out Droid Life's article on the Droid X2. I have yet to see a pentile screen in person, but based on what I've read the worst ones are painfully obvious but the good ones are fine.

If you get the chance, would you post some pics taken with the Photon's camera?

I like that the Photon's camera is recessed into the back bump -- I don't know why HTC insists on their cameras bulging out past the casing. I know you can buy a case for the 3D that protects the plastic covering the camera, but I hate cases, especially when the phone is already huge.

This or the upcoming Galaxy phone to replace my Evo 4G? Hrrmm...

To be honest, I was looking at the Droid 3 screen and it isn't too bad. Here's hoping the Bionic/Photon's is like that.

True, but I want to know if Motorola is staying consistent per device since the Droid 3 is also running 2.3.4. The lock screen is that of the 2.3.3 version based on the pics. LLP can do this you're right , but LLP has become unusable to the point where I've abandoned that app outright. It's a small detail that shows improvement over "old blur". The new grid features when moving widgets and such is a drastic improvement as well. Just from the pics it doesn't seem to be there which is odd.

The guy wanted 400 but I got it for 350. As of right now, I like this phone as much as my Evo 3D. But they are so different and do so many different things.

Well, if you look at one of the pictures, he has a shot with the "About" screen up and it does indeed show Android 2.3.4


I'm pretty sure Google Talk has video chat since it has the latest GB build.

This is a really good looking phone, and maybe a worthy upgrade for Evo 4G owners who aren't married to HTC and Sense and who've decided to hold off on an upgrade. I think Sprint is going to have a hit on it's hands. Being a world phone and having increased enterprise is going to be a big bonus to some people too.

I'm looking forward to more pics and hands on from the OP.
