My battery life seems decent. It's been a while since I was on Android, but I decided to switch back for more functionality. I've noticed that my phone is awake a lot, even on very light usage. I have syncing dumbed down and everything. The only social account I have is Facebook, and I've set it to sync only over Wifi which is off most of the time. Additionally, my battery usage shows "phone idle" as the part that's sucking up the most battery (~70-80%). Is this normal, or what's wrong here? I've already reset the phone and it still appears to be doing it.

I have the same high phone idle number. What does that mean?

BTW- am I reading that correctly? it looks like you have about 70% battery left after 10 hours!

The first day my battery was giving me about 3 hours of time before needing to re-charge.

Since implementing most of the suggestions above, I am now getting 10-12 hours of usable life. About the only thing I have not done in the above suggestions is add apps. I want to get used to phone itself before adding apps.

My typical usage is about 30 minutes of talk time during the day. Frequent text messages, usually 20-30. Regularly checking email on three accounts, with average 50+emails daily. Occasionally checking something on the internet, quick Google lookups or reading news/sports.

The times I really see a degredation in battery life is when using one of the navigation apps or leaving the 4g on when no 4g is available.

So far I am very happy with the battery life and the overall performance of the phone.

Yeah, you're reading it correctly but it's from -very- light usage.

I completely drained by battery yesterday and charged it up overnight, and today I went 15 hours with 50% left at the end of the day. I had about 4 hours of talk time, and I check the weather about every 15 minutes due to my job, so I'd consider it a moderate use day (Usually my talk time is closer to 6 to 8 hrs). It looks like it works a lot better after a full cycle.

I have yet to drain my battery completely!! And I use my phone very heavy.. I love the battery life on this thing! I can only imagine how long an extended battery would last! WOW very impressed!

Curious if a week later and people have any thoughts on battery life. I have 3 GMail accounts, a Sound Hound and Weather widget on my home screens. I use Plume and it updates every 3 hours. If I play some Angry Birds for like 20-25 minutes, 20 mins of stored music and check a couple texts/emails and my battery was at 30% by 1:30 (7 and a half hours since coming off the charger). Display and Phone Idle combine to take about 80% of my used battery life. Standby, Angry Birds, Android, Bluetooth and Dolphin are 8, 4, 4, 2, and 2 respectively. I don't feel like that should warrant losing 70% of my battery. This was my issue with the Evo as well. 4g, WiFi and GPS all turned off.

Mine has improved. I don't know if the actual battery performance has changed, or if it's because I got rid of some default widgets, or a combination of the two. But I might be able to live with this.

Stills the 2600 fat battery I used on the pre. That thing lasted a full day of very heavy use, and I just didn't have to think about it. And of course the Treo was great.

Had the Photon for a week and yesterday was the first time I really tested the battery.

Kinda disappointed, it only lasted me 8 hours.
Screen time was 2 hours. Battery had 15% left.

In battery management, display was #1, followed by cell standby.
The phone was awake a lot though, even when the screen was off. Probably why my battery wasn't that good.

I've been off for 13h 41m with 2h55 min screen time and still at the "30%" level, but maybe 1min of phone calls. First time really trying it out after draining the battery. Pretty impressive.

I came from an Epic. I had 1 regular battery and 2 extended batteries for it. I always seemed like a geek because I had the extra batteries in my pocket all the time. By the end of the day, I would of used 2 of my 3 batteries.

With my new Photon, I have not bought any other batteries and the stock one is lasting me a whole day with the same amount of use. I love this phone !

After coming from the EVO 4G after a little over a year, I am actually surprised at the battery life of the Photon. I use it the same as my EVO if not more (playing with it), and I'm able to leave my house and go through a full work day making phone calls, sending text, and periodically picking it up to mess with a few applications and when I get home I don't have to rush in and take the charger out of my pocket to plug it in. So far...So good

I'm in the same boat as you. I had the EVO 4G and had to make sure I had chargers everywhere for when it was about to die.....lol With the Photon, I was able to put my car charger away and rarely use my charger at my desk.

I'm currently 8 hours since plugged in and at 90%. This is far superior to my Evo 4g. I was one of those people with a stand-alone charger and spare 1750mah on hand along with chargers everywhere I went. I don't have to pay near as much attention to battery life now. Was one of the main reasons I swapped + dual core processor.

I have to ask how much you're using your phone and if you're using it a lot, what's your configuration? I get good battery life with mine, but nothing like this.

People who are posting battery life should really have a screenshot of the battery usage next to it. Yeah my battery life is great on standby but using Netflix will drain it dead in about 3 hours (not much better than my EVO).

What app are you using for the battery percentage in your status bar?

Battery monitor free. Not the "battery monitor widget" one.

Thanks. I downloaded it and it's great to get an accurate read on the battery. I'm finding out my battery life is better than I suspected since the battery bar icon and quick settings can be misleading. Quick settings also only shows battery as increments of 10%. Definitely multitudes better than my rooted Epic was. I only rooted that device because stock battery life wasn't so good.

By the way, what app are you using for the screen shots? I thought you can't do that if your device isn't rooted? Unless you are...

See where you power is going: Tap Home > Menu > About phone > Battery > Battery use.
milominderbiner - Thanks for such an incredible resource for newbies. I know you from PreCentral, don't I?

One thing I noticed for the Photon, the battery usage info is actually found here:

Tap Home >Settings > Battery & data manager >Battery usage
