I have a Spring Galaxy S4 that I want to use in Israel with an Israeli (Orange Network) SIM card.

I found this thread at XDA: SIM Unlock for International GSM/WCDMA [SPH-L720] - xda-developers but find it hard to imagine that it is really necessary to do this to use the phone internationally on another network's SIM card.

Can't one just have Sprint unlock it for international use and the put in the new SIM card, adjust some settings (exactly what?) and then go with it?

    Please help!

If it is a Sprint phone, it's for a CDMA network. Is that what Orange is? It's extremely unlikely a Sprint phone would work even if they unlocked it. I think you do need an international version, but hopefully someone more traveled than I will chime in.

No, Orange is a GSM network. The Sprint Galaxy S4 is supposed to be an "international" phone which is why even though it is Sprint it can use a SIM card.

If it's an international version and has GSM radio bands it should work, I'd imagine. You'll have to go to Sprint and try to get them to unlock it.

Edit to add, Sprint 4G LTE phones all have sim cards, but that doesn't mean they are gsm phones. They use gsm network for data only. But for calling they only have CDMA compatibility.

I'm not completely clear on the type of phone you have. But it seems all roads lead to Sprint CS with this problem.

Thank you. This is why I posted the question in the Sprint Galaxy S4 forum, in the hope that someone with this phone is familiar with the process. From what I have read elsewhere it does seem that the Spring Galaxy S4 is a true international phone and with the proper Sim card can fully use a GSM network for voice, SMS & data. I would just like to hear from someone who is familiar with doing that to know exactly what is involved and how it works (I know I will need to call Sprint international support to "unlock" it).

One of many similar results I found when I googled it. (From people who have the phone.) I hope this helps!

Thanks, I had also found that; would like to hear some other 1st person reports particularly from some more knowledgeable users.

It can be done. The hard part seems to be getting Sprint to unlock the phone.
