Do not use the Speedtest or FCC app from Market. They are seriously flawed for 4G tests for most servers. Those say only 1.5Mbps for most tests at my location but are significantly off as I can demonstrate sustained 7Mbps with 3 other methods.

Use Dolphin HD browser, is more faster for me. Might try plugging in headphone to act as antenna. FM radio uses headphones for antenna, 4G radio might also, not sure.

Use 'Shootme' from Market to snapshot your screen results.

Run test at this site... post how many 4G bars you have as well.

Also test using the 4G Hotspot, which is free at the moment. Was able to stream Netflix HD with no rebuffering.

My highest so far using Chicago test site. Note only 2 4G bars.

I was skeptical that speedtest.net only shows spikes, not sustained rates, so did a stress test.

Have stressed the 4G connection with several streams simultaneously. Used Wireless Tether app, which shows bit rate of connection while pumping a bunch of data streams at once. Downloaded three 100MB+ files at once and did Netflix streaming on a PC connected to EVO hotspot.

I was indeed able to SUSTAIN about 7Mbps. Netflix streaming BTW kept ticking with no rebuffering. I'm seriously thinking of setting up a Buffalo router as a repeater and getting rid of my 7Mbps cable modem.

Still wasn't convinced. I used another tool to verify looking at the WiFi layer in tether mode while doing the same stress test above. The Network Monitor app shows in Bytes/sec so need to multiple by 8 to get bits. It says 1140KBytes/sec, which is >9Mbits/sec. Factoring overhead, it's safe to says it's >7Mbps and it was sustained for duration of the downloads.

I tested again with the Speedtest app from Market and it said I only get 1.5Mbps. There is something very wrong with that app for 4G tests.

Also note that newer Cleawire markets have 30-40Mbps microwave backhaul and/or up to 100Mbps wired backhaul to each site. Early Clearwire markets started with much lower backhaul, so you may get lower results depending on load due to other users. Will take a while to upgrade older sites with more backhaul. Give it time.

I am located between DC and Bmore, so no real towers here, I am getting the leftovers, but I work downtown DC so no prob.

1.28 down, and .02 up... lol sad, though I tested earlier in the afternoon with better numbers.

over wifi, however, 9.47 down, and 3.09 up

Best I had this morning was 3.3 up and .3 down. At 1pm it was half that. Last week was 2-3 times better upload and more consistently between 2-3Mbps down. I tried 3g and had 1.1 down and .7 up. I am north of Bmore.

Did more EVO tests against friend's Overdrive in same location. My EVO can't get over 4Mbps yet his Overdrive can consistently do 6-8Mbps. He said at times he can get 10-12Mbps but is rare.

I was in a basement with only 1 4G bar and was still able to get 2Mbps.

BTW, when you run your tests, kill all other apps with Advanced Task Killer (in Market). Some background stuff may be using bandwidth.

I got 4.6 down & .67 up on WiFi (about right for DSL pro) but I am all over the map on 3g & 4g. I just got .067 up on 4g and I got 1.9 earlier. Then I got 1.1 down & .5 up on 3G. For some reason, SpeedTest thinks I am elsewhere on the EVO. It defaulted to KC the first time I did a test and now it defaults to Houston. I am in Austin. My Incredible is correct.
