Which means nothing but a restructure or buyout - and a whole bunch of pissed off investors debtors who wouldn't be repaid.

Bankruptcy does not mean out of business like it used to.

Sure would be nice of them to let me know when to stop paying my bill

Sprint has few options at this point. While it's true that the entity won't go away, the reasons to stay with them (unlimited data, ridiculously cheap legacy plans, persecution-free tethering) will. If the new owners understand consumer technology and have deep enough pockets to both turn it around and acquire new spectrum (Apple, Google) it might be a good thing.

Unfortunately, I think a few well-placed campaign contributions and drug-fuelled visions will result in a series of owners who buy it, try a clueless approach to turn it around, fail miserably then sell to an even more evil and clueless entity who will repeat the cycle. Sprint's going to get passed around like a drunk freshman co-ed at a fraternity party.

I'm already mapping out an escape plan. Surprisingly, there are a lot of MVNOs around with decent pricing.
