The area I live in has Wimax 4G coverage but is not on the list for the first go round for LTE. I can get a new phone in September but not sure which to get.

You also have to weigh your lifestyle too...

Do you depend on WiMax or is it something you can get by without if you went LTE and had to wait a bit until they light up your area/city?

Many people live/work off WIFI and only need 3g/4g (Wimax or LTE) when they are going to and from work.

No reason to decide now. By end of the summer there will be lots of news and advancement on Sprint's network. But, my answer would be an LTE phone. Wimax is just a dead man walking. LTE will be coming to your area which would offer more when you dump it on craigslist and upgrade again.

If I get the new HTC phone will I be able to continue using the Sprint 4g network that is presently operating in my hometown, or will it only work with 3g till LTE service comes?

Will this be the same with the new Samsung Galaxy 3?

If you get an LTE phone and you have Wimax currently you will only get 3G until LTE is added to your area. But still the Evo LTE is still the best deal going for Sprint hardware wife. Do you really need 4G right now?

If you use WiMax constantly I would get a WiMax device, but if you basically stay on 3G I would go ahead and get an LTE device because Sprint won't be expanding WiMax at all now. It's all LTE.

Personally, I'd use a WiMax device until LTE came to my area.

From what I've read, they will be pushing out around 20-30 or more markets before the end of 2012! Now let's see if that holds to be true.

What I don't like about Wimax is it drops the connection whenever it switches towers. So e.g. taking the bus into town it is useless. And at home I have wifi, and at the office no signal inside anyway. So Wimax is pretty useless. I think hand off between towers will be better once we go to LTE, therefore I would buy an LTE phone and stay away from Wimax.

That doesn't sound right..I ride the bus all the time and never dropped a call. How strange...where do you live?

Calls are fine. If you are streaming audio or downloading a podcast it will break the connection when you switch towers. Charlotte NC
