Its Looking like the DOJ isn't convinced....
Both the DoJ and FCC made it pretty clear they thought four carriers were best for competition, so it's not clear to me what Son is thinking. It kind of looks like he's suffering the same kind of arrogance that caused "at&t" to, essentially, reverse TMO's fortunes. Then again: DT seems to think it can happen. Can both of them be wrong? Or is DT suckering Son?

Its Possible TMOBILE is gonna try for the SAME DEAL as with AT&T.. If this doesn't go through, Sprint owes us asinine amounts of spectrum....

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/01/10/t-mobile-ceo-on-sprint-deal-i-have-a-couple-things-to-say/

The Possibility of Merging with Sprint, and then Letting DISH NETWORK Use All or Portions of its network to become a major "4th Carrier"... Would give the FCC a better image?

Ill Stick with TMOBILE Knew what was going on when it let ATT try to buy it out... It convinced ATT to pay it SPECTRUM Overload if the merger failed... Maybe they are doing the same with SPRINT

2 Days ago they say they are rethinking the deal...

Well... kind of. Two days ago they were saying maybe they should rethink the deal in light of the unexpected, and very public, negative reaction from both the public and U.S. regulatory agencies. I don't think it was unexpected, at all. I think they're just trying the "Poor, poor, pitful us. We're being picked on." public relations tactic.

Put another way: If the reaction truly was unexpected, neither Son nor Hesse should be in the positions they are, in the business they are.

This whole thing is a charade and it means absolutely nothing to existing customers. This is a desperate grab for new customers. My company has been with Sprint for over 10 years with over 20 devices and I have held onto them as long as I could. Promises of 4G LTE deployment went on for years in our market knowing they already had an invested but poor Wimax deployment which ate the crap out of the batteries in devices so inherently was never used by users. Paying for LTE phone with no LTE in the market. We had a ton of AIRRAVES trying to increase coverage in common areas. Their whole deployment and now going to 800mhz LTE and splitting LTE has just been a complete cluster&@($. They have all this spectrum but are lost with how to utilize it and increase coverage for EXISTING CUSTOMERS who have been paying their @*($#^&$ BILLS. I couldn't even get my dedicated specialist to respond in order to close my account. Sorry, their management is so lost. They chose to hang us out to dry, they can have their T-mobile customers. It sucks to see the big carriers sticking it to people, but they are running away with coverage. Even when I did get Sprint LTE, their backhaul was crap. Whats the point of getting unlimited LTE if it doesn't exist or doesn't work. I tried so hard to stick with the little guy so we had a free and competitive market so that the big boys got kept in check, but the reality is Sprint management really doesn't have a big plan. It's obvious when they are chasing a GSM network desperate to find new customers who will ultimately jump ship when they watch service plummet while Sprint/Tmo decide which technology to stick with. ATT went through the same issue when they had the iPhone exclusivity. Overcrowded their network and people jumped ship after they realized they could get the same phone on a better carrier. That is the bottom line. A T-mobile acquisition means nothing for at least 3 years.

Except ALL THE TIMES You are talking about.. Where the SPRINT not run by SOFTBANK!!!

Softbank isn't like anything we have ever seen in the U.S. If Softbank is sure they can get TMOBILE.. He already has plans, strategies, Tech Crews, Idea's, how to integrate the networks, how to integrate billing just sitting on his desk.. waiting for the FCC to say ok...

He has done this is EVERY Acquisition he has done over seas.... If he could... He would be inside Sprint & TMOBILE right now, prepping the networks for integration

So he's the guy who started the prepaid no data $45 plan and 2.5 gb $60 dollar plan. He must be working real hard at driving down the prices.

Softbank has owned Sprint for how long now? What results, if any, have we seen thus far?

The bigger question is why do they need tmobile to survive? Don't they have enough spectrum? They gobbled up Nextel and Clearwire, so they have plenty of spectrum. They dont NEED tmobile. they just want to get rid of them because tmobile is pro-consumer.

He wants the PEOPLE.. .The higher the subscriber base, the better he can talk down the Phone Manufactures.... He could care less about the coverage since the % of coverage that overlaps is MINIMAL.. He needs the subscriber base mainly

Yeah let him do it without tmobile. If his network is so good and his prices are so competitive, people will naturally switch to sprint instead of flocking away like the plaque.

But they wont because of the name... Sprint doesn't have time to WAIT 2 years to get subscribers... If he can INSTANTLY gain a few million... He gets negotiation power right off the bat! Its not about "Being a better network"... You don't just up and gain enough people like that to get better buying power!!
Right now, ATT/Verizon have more Physical PEOPLE buying phones.. that is all the Manufactures care about... They do not CARE about quality of the network.. they are not in business unless someone buys their phones... keyword: PHONE.. They will give the top 2 better phones, better prices because they have a better chance of sell more phones through them...

Look we've seen Sprint's horrible plans starting with the framily plan (which btw the 1500 family data plan is still superior than) Now we have some no data 45 dollar plan and 2.5 gb 60 dollar plan. Those prices are frikin' horrible. As expensive or more expensive than ATT, who has a superior network and dare I say twice as much as the tmobile 30 dollar plan with 5 gb.

If he wants a price war, he doesn't need tmobile. He's owned sprint for almost a year and sprint has been losing customers left and right since then and has been for the last few years.

I hope the FCC/DOJ/even Mr. Obama himself block the tmobile/sprint merger. I do wish TMobile had put in a huge penalty if the deal doesn't go through for tmobile similar to ATT. Mr son needs to get his filthy hands away from tmobile and should work on fixing his network before doing more pointless mergers (cough cough nextel, clearwire)

Mr. Son should've stayed in Japan.

So we are just going to ignore the fact that they have been spending billions rebuilding the network, or the fact that MOST of the customers who LEFT SINCE he took over, didn't leave BECAUSE of him.. They left because of the service interruptions and degrade of the network due to upgrades... So it isn't fair to say that SPRINT as a company, is losing customers "Just because they suck" under Softbank... and some of you are STILL ignoring the fact that upgrades picked up major steam after softbank infused its cash.... The upgrade wouldn't be where it is right now, if it wasn't for the extra cash to boost it! Is this like the bible... just picking and choosing what we want to look at?

Look at the smaller carriers, They take longer to get the Bigger toys... the iphones, the tablets with data plans.. because the BIGGER Carriers get pickings first.... because of CUSTOMER BASE!
Iphone doesn't get better IPHONE Deals, or better GALAXY Deals because of the QUALITY of the network, or PRICE Of the plans... its about PEOPLE and UNITS.. not Plans and Network Speed

So you still deny the fact that sprint's prepaid price plans are a true reality of mr son's motives?

High cost, low reliability- mr son's motto

In fact I'm in one of those areas where this magical "spark" is live in chicago.

Speeds still sucked with my nexus 5 and I still get dropped calls.

Yeah yeah, I'll believe Mr son if he can fix his network before he actually goes out and tries to buy tmobile. again, he doesn't need tmobile to fix his network. if he can spend "billions" of dollars on buying tmobile, how about he spend that money on fixing his network first. He has the spectrum and the cash, so why is tmobile pumping out lte faster than sprint?
