I'm not sure how you feel about trying to take it apart. But I would use some rubbing alcohol (the like 90%+ variety) and try to remove as much of the crap that got in there. The danger with water is the stuff that will dry onto the traces and short out so drying it is only half the battle there. I'm not sure how the screens do with being submersed so I won't suggest dunking it in rubbing alcohol but if you can take the screen off and then dunk it in rubbing alcohol that should probably do it. Was it off or on when you dropped it?
