Lost 3g and edge connection

My friend who is not very tech savy rooted his captivate using one click method. He called me today and said that he has lost all 3g and edge connections. I own a DX and am not very familiar with att and captivate. I would not think that rooting by itself would do this. I have never ran into this issue. Any help would make him feel a whole lot better. He is on a road trip so he is pretty stressed.

Has he rebooted it yet? If he called you from the phone, maybe he just accidentally turned data off. Rooting itself shouldn't do anything to that.

Same thing happened to me when I rooted mine. My beautiful widgets data toggle switch turned itself on and it wasn't even on my desktop. Have him check any widgets that have that.

I ended up having him do a wipe and reroot. Everything is up and running minus his apps. He will just have to download them again. Thanks for everyone's help.
