Does anyone have any idea where they are at with the ICS upgrade? i see there is a leaked ICS update out. I would guess that it is closer now?

I would not care so much if it was not for the battery problems with the .6 update. Sometimes I can't make it half a day without recharging.

There is no way to tell when the update is going to drop. AT&T will decide when to drop the update whenever they feel like it

Did you know that Samsung identified and fixed the .6 power management bug BEFORE AT&T released it to your phone? Yeah, so, best of luck with AT&T updates.

Your right rooting is a great option I'm on task650's AOKP rom and I'm never returning to stock.

Check this thread, it's not too tough. And by "check," I mean read it... My phone is running CM9, which is Android 4.0.4 with ZERO AT&T (or Samsung) crapware. Lovin' me some ice cream sandwich...

When the phone came out AT&T stated unequivocally they would update the phone to ICS in the 1st qtr. of 2012.

1st qtr. has come & gone & we are almost done with the 2nd qtr. Still no ice cream.

I bought the phone because AT&T said they'd update in the 1st qtr.

Learned my lesson. Never trust what AT&T says.

When this contract is up, I will be going to Verizon after 12 years of broken promises from AT&T, I've had enough.

AT&T if you can't deliver you shouldn't tell customers you can. It's bad for business. You've lost mine & my family's.

I don't know if Verizon will please you. If you check the forums or news articles about the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, the users are angry as angry birds because Verizon used their proprietary ownership of CDMA to prevent Google from directly updating the phone to 4.0.4. Verizon released that update finally, but it took them many more months than should have, while the unlocked, GSM, and Google Play store versions got their updates instantly from Google when it was available (that was supposed to be the whole point of the Nexus experience).

If you really are concerned about updates, don't trust any carrier. Buy the Galaxy Nexus directly from the Play Store and you'll get your updates directly from Google, without having to wait for the fodder development and testing teams at at&t or Verizon.

Don't bother waiting, root the phone and flash one of the roms, they kick *** on this phone b/c of the huge dev support on xda. I'm running shostock2, plus you get battery draining bloatware removed and can still use titanium pro to tweak further. This phone is so smooth and fast now, and battery life is awesome, big improvement there.

Heading that way. Yesterday I was working in the yard and low battery warning came on about 2pm. It was just sitting in my pocket other than checking a few emails. That's about 6 hours of battery life. That just sucks!

Install Juice Denfender, then after install, select Balanced Profile, and Enable at the top of the screen

    Then go to Home screen
    touch Menu
    Touch Settings
    Touch Wireless and Network
    Touch Wi_Fi Settings
Then touch Menu again, and then touch Advanced
    Touch Wi-fi sleep policy
    Then Touch Never

The above tells the phone to never turn wi-fi off, but, Juice Defender will now turn it off when you close the phone and it will not keep checking for wi fi every minute like it normally does. When you open the phone it will come back on.

this should at least double the battery life....sure works on mine and others that I have seen.

Since the announcement of GSIII for AT&T. ICS wont be coming out for our phone any time soon now. Its a logical business strategy. This was inevitable.

I think the schedule for ICS release for GSII is unrelated to sales of GSIII. Although I'm certain a lot goes into these types of decisions, I think many people plan on keeping their GSII's and many probably even bought one not too long ago. Therefore, AT&T still has to try to keep these people relatively happy (ie, happy enough that they will stay AT&T customers beyond their contract expiration).

I'm a relatively tech-savvy type but I am rather cost-conscious. As such, I am anxious for the upgrade to my GSII only to help address the battery life issue. But I certainly don't feel I'm missing any features to justify breaking my contract. And, a year from now when I am free from my contract, I will probably only upgrade if I can balance features and cost. I probably won't be spending be $200 for the next new thing.

Mine is set already just as you said. I think sometimes it helps a lot. Other times it is like it was never installed. I don't understand why?

    Thx for the suggestions

Every once in awhile, I will notice mine take a dive. Usually, I find that Defender has been turned off for some reason....some times, I realize that I did something, and other times, I cannot explain it. This has happened about three times in the past four months. The last time, Defender appeared to be enabled, but, I re installed it and things immediately went back to normal so there was some problem.

The GS2 is easy to root and the roms available on xda are better than anything you will get from AT&T. CM9 and Task's AOKP are awesome and there are great mods of Samsung's roms by shoman and others. Read up on it and go for it, you'll be glad you did.

I am giving AT&T until June 21 to release the updates they promised months ago. After that, I'm going to root all my devices and go with custom ICS roms.
