Giving up on Update

Hey guys, I am finally back from being abroad and was very excited to update to ICS. Unfortunately, KIES sucks and won't let me update. I have the latest version, but when I'm downloading the update it always times out or doesn't even connect to the servers. One time it made it to %100 and seemed to be finishing up, but then suddenly KIES stopped recognizing my phone and froze so I had to remove to battery.

Whatever though, I'm done trying and from what I've read ICS isn't that great of an upgrade anyway. So I've decided to root!

Can I get some recommendations for good ROMS, maybe some screenshots? My main concern is the horrific wifi battery drain -- I want it gone. Thanks!

Have you tried a different USB cable?

Whatever though, I'm done trying and from what I've read ICS isn't that great of an upgrade anyway.

ICS is actually pretty good but not with AT&T stock ROM. I've already given up on AT&T and am now using CM9. Hopefully, will have the CM10 (JB) nightly soon for SGS2.

I suggest to visit here for the custom ROMs, kernels, and modems.
