I just purchased a sony s tablet (wifi only). I dont want to pay 30$ every month to use wifi outside on tablet. If I root my att gs2 will that allow my tablet to use it as wifi on the go?

Rooting is literally just the first step. There are apps in Google play market that can accommodate what you are trying to do. There are also a few apps that I thought didn't require root, but not sure how well they work.

The short answer is, yes. You can download the Wifi Tether app.
