Install KitKat on SGalaxy S3 I747 by AT&T

For some reason it tells me there are no softwares updates (my os is 4.1.1) and im aware kit kat was released for my phone. I bought it unlocked when I was studying in the US, now Im in Argentina using it with another phone company sim card, could this be the cause why it wont upgrade? I dont think so but I have no clue then, it still connects to at&t server to check for software updates. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

is your phone rooted? if yes.. you won't be able to get OTA Updates

I've just rooted it today, but before rooting it I wasn't able to update it either, thanks for answering pushkardua.
