Google's response to the recent Android Market malware incident (An Update on Android Market Security - Official Google Mobile Blog) makes it clear that (1) Android Market is not infallible, (2) Android 2.2.1 and previous have known vulnerabilities, and (3) the ?Android Market Security Tool March 2011? does not fix the vulnerabilities, just undoes what the known attacks may have done.
Inspire runs Android 2.2.1 (at least, mine does).
Will HTC or AT&T provide upgrades to 2.2.2 ? I don't want to have to void my warranty (i.e. root my phone) to get a security upgrade against exploits in the wild.
Where should we let them know of our concerns?
