Home Button Sticks

My G1 is having some odd issues. If I press the Home button, it gets stuck, always bringing me back to my home screen, recent apps menu, etc. It isn't physically stuck, the button isn't pressed in. The other issue is that the 'e' button also takes me to my home screen.

This originally happened while stock, so I rooted to CyanogeMod 4.2.15.1 and still have the issue.

At first I thought it was software, hence the new rom. Now I'm thinking more on the hardware side. I thought about the ribbon cable.

Anyone have this issue before or heard of similar problems? Anyone with experience replacing the ribbon cable?

I seem to have exact same problem.
But in my case, even if I dont press the home, it always comes to the home screen. Basically it does not let me go anywhere. So, essentially I cannot use the phone.

Now, I checked that pressing and holding e takes to recent apps - meaning e is acting as home screen.

Did you find any work around?
