Has anyone been able to get Blackberry Messenger on this phone yet?

I am getting a "this device is not compatible with this application". So I'm thinking I needed a software upgrade, only to discover that my phone says "No firmware".

Even if I do manage to update, will it even be able to get BBM? Any ideas on how I can maybe run some sort of mobile virtualbox and run some other OS and then install BBM.

    Welcome to Android Central
BBM is currently compatible with phone running ICS (4.0) and higher.
From the home page: BlackBerry to bake version of BBM for Gingerbread phones | Android Central
Blackberry is planning on releasing it on phones that run Gingerbread (2.3.x), which is what the GS1 runs.

I think I am running on Froyo? My phone tells me: Build number: FROYO.VUVKD1 and a Firmware version of 2.2.1

That's even further behind Gingerbread. You should be able to update to at least 2.3
