Hi All. Thought you T-mobile Samsung galaxy s2 users or interested in one might want to know about an unprofessional and in my view unethical review of this device by a guy on Android Police.
[Review] The T-Mobile Galaxy S II: Beauty Is Only Skin Deep, But The Bloatware Goes On Forever
I have the SGS2 on ATT, love it, and since my family is on T-mobile we were looking at the SGS2 (Hercules). We also have 2 iphone 4 and several Blackberries for comparison.
We almost did not get this device after reading this review, but after looking at it in the store got 3 of them anyways. It turns out this review is the most unprofessional review that I have come across in a long time. Among others, this guy flagged the device for being "unstable" due to its form factor, full of bloatware, etc. I am sure his incompetent, biased, and highly ignorant review kept a bunch of people from getting the (currently) best T-mobile device. In a nutshell, that guy must be full of himself up the wazoo and out for sensationalist writing. His claims are over-exaggerated or flat-out false (the device is certainly not unstable - did you take the holster clip off genius? Bloatware? Have you ever had a ATT device? etc.) Overall, his review was not only useless and unhelpful, but what's worse clearly driven by his ego and lust for public recognition as evidenced by his incessant replies to people that commented on his review. This my friends is unethical journalism (if you dare calling it journalism) at its prime. Android Police is as of now on my junk mail list. cheers to you all.

Probably best to not click on the link and give the guy traffic if it was that bad of a review.

Unethical? You have pretty high moral standards. I read the review and didn't think twice about it. It is his honest take on it. Are you saying every review needs to speak unconditionally highly of the device? As far as people choosing not to get the device because of the review... What is your point? The consumer's job is to read multiple reviews, go hands on with the device, see how it fits their needs. If his issues with the device were dealbreakers for anybody else, then so what?

When I read the review I thought he was a little tough on the device. But you know what? Good for him. The GSII line has gotten nothing but glorious reviews. I respect that he didn't just give it the typical thumbs up and move along. You don't have to agree with his opinion, and he doesn't have to agree with anybody else. Reviews are subjective. And Android Police is a well known respected Android blog--much like AC. I don't think you should attempt to sway people from visiting the site just because you don't personally agree with the review. You don't agree? Great! Move on.

He was obviously intent on giving the phone a bad review, however, he still made some good points.

Two big reasons I won't buy this device are the huge/low resolution display and the lack of a notification LED. I'm not a huge fan of unnatural colors you get with a super-ultra-crazy-vibrant screen either. And 27 pieces of uninstallable crapware would infuriate me too. He also hates touchwiz, big deal. There are plenty of screenshots for people to see for themselves.

I actually liked Ron's review despite the fact his reviewed was biased by the fact that US got this phone 6 months late and also Nexus Prime was around the corner. IMO the review seemed honest and detailed maybe because I agreed with some of his views.

I'm wondering about the low resolution of the screen myself. But I don't mind the pixelation on the iPad2 screen.

Go to the store and see it for yourself. It is not low def. Other blogs said that it was the best display of any phone including the iPhone.

He did not like the default lock screen but did not say how easy it was to change. There were a list of other misleading and inaccurate statements. He hates TMobile and Samsung.

It was sensational just to get page hits. It was biased, unethical, and inaccurate. He does this all the time.

I did read it earlier and thought some of it was sensational. Though trying it in store I wasn't sure if I could tell if it was blurry on a website.

Just curious Poo, and others...what phone would you get then...
I am on Tmo, Can't go anywhere, in the middle of a contract, but sold my phone and need a phone in the next week or two. I am using a ten or eleven year old phone

I believe my only opotions are:

    1. Pay or not pay contract break fee and goto Verizon and get Nexus (or Bionic or Razr) and pay $139 a month, 50 bucks more than I currently pay. Not an option. On limited income. Can't increase monthly bills.

    2. Goto Sprint pay same amount but have imho less of a phone selection- not an option

    3. Same as verizon, except there is no clear cut winner there, and I'd be paying $40 bucks more...not an option

    4. T-Mobile and pick the best of the G2x, Sensation, Amaze, and Galaxy s2

And it appears that #4 is the best option to me and some friends. And in that group the Galaxy s2, to me, and even as you read above, so a lot say, is the best. The Amaze, sure great camera. But reviews say that the Galaxy photos are just as good with less features. And blogs like nerdy werds and BGR even suggest that the Nexus Prime isn't the clear cut winner over the Galaxy , they may be a push, if not the galaxy winning in some peoples opinions with camera, front camera, some actually LIKE touch wiz, sd card

I am not sure I understand, nothing agains you poo, I liked what you said, but you can tell I am thinking out loud LOL. but a lot of us, me included, judge these phones and forget what we had yesterday. The Galaxy, while maybe not some peoples first choice due to resolution, has those other pluses I mentioned. All phones have one or two over the other

As you can see, like you spoke of the guy who gave the review, I have talked my way thru what appears to be my decision. I can't wait for the Nexus unlocked. One, we don't know when, right?Any ideas anyone? Two it would be a lot of money, $689 somewhere...the cheapest. And like I said, there are those pros who question its superiority. However, I would like anyone's answer to the question as to what to get, i.e. what is therefore the best phone to get in the next 2 weeks or so, without talking down the Galaxy. I may have to, and at this point am very excited about it. But I would like to leave all options open.

    Thanks to all

Do you mean in the stock browser? I recommend Dolphin HD, but in the stock browser:

    1) Click the far-left capacative button.
    2) Select More.
    3) Select Settings.
    4) Go to Set Homepage.
    5) Enter the desired URL.
    6) Select OK.

Like virtually ALL reviews of smartphones the one you cite is essentially subjective, but that does not make it unethical. The so-called "expert" opinions on any given aspect of smartphones, including the Galaxy S2, are all over the map. The only time expert reviewers make any pretense towards objectivity is when they cite very specific features of a phone such as the size battery, phone dimensions, number of pixels in the camera chip, or presence or absence of a notification LED. There is no reason to take take the opinions of reviewers seriously. My recommendation is ignore what the reviewers have to say, check the phones out for yourself, and pick the one that appeals to YOU the most. If you consider 99% of the tasks that most people use smartphones for, the top dozen to two dozen phones are close enough that it doesn't matter much unless you obsess about it.

I thought it was a good review except the part where he says this phone is smooth. I had hands on with all three variants and three were laggy and stuttered when scrolling. I was disappointed with what I saw and no I wouldn't buy one. I hope the GN performs better but I won't hold my breath.

I had three iPhones (well still have two, but don't use them) and I don't know how anyone can criticize the screen quality or resolution. I think it's at least as good as the iPhone, and I'm a stickler when it comes to audio and video. If I had to complain, I think the audio output can be higher via headphone output, and would also like a univeral EQ. Then again, the iPhone doesn't have the universal EQ either. All in all I'm happy as a pig in @#$@@# with the SG2, and I paid the out of plan full price!

Interesting, resolution looks amazing, never had a single issue. I have no bloatware, no TW, and game my brains out. Battery is insane. His loss for not opening her up, and pushing phone to full potential. I hate people that make pointless statements, then other say more dumb sh*t, as if to defend. Learn to use, and utilize your device. All Android phones have greatness in them....if you know how to work it. "IMO" Lol....
